“What is a Christian? The question can be answered in many ways, but the richest answer I know is that a Christian is one who has God for his Father.”
These are the words of J.I. Packer in his book ‘Knowing God.’ We know about the doctrine of Justification, and how wonderful it is. How as sinners we can be forgiven through the life and death of Christ and that this is by faith alone, grace alone and Christ alone. It is a truth of the upmost importance and Christians should defend this truth to the end.
So why does Packer, “Our first point about Adoption is that it is the highest privilege that the gospel offers: higher even than justification.” (Chappter 19)
Well Packer is getting the point across that we can know this God. This God who did everything wants us to be in his family. He doesn’t need us, and we can offer him nothing, but this God wants us as his children. While the truth of Justification is great, Adoption is greater.
Why don’t you listen to C.J Mahaney on ‘God as Father: Understanding the Doctrine of Adoption in Gods Word.’
