What Have We Done?

deniedThe Resurgence blog are on the verge of releasing their music blog and are giving away a free download of some of their stuff. Obviously I like a good bargain so I downloaded it. It’s not that bad actually, some good old hymns reproduced, but one hymn struck me especially. It goes like this…

Oh my soul, oh my Jesus
Judas sold you for 30, Iʼd have done it for less
Oh my soul, oh my Saviour
Peter denied you 3 times, I have denied you more

As the nails when in, I was standing right there
As you breathed your last, I shook my head and I cried

Oh my God what have we done
We have destroyed your son
Oh my God what have we done
We have destroyed your son

And the blood ran down, I was standing right there
And the water poured, I shook my head and I cried

It rings of truth in my own life. Sometimes I look at how the disciples behaved I just think of them as a bunch of densers. They hung around with Jesus so much and still got it wrong all the time. But when I think about it I know I am no different to those men. The line ‘Peter denied him three times, I have denied you more’ hit home hard. I deny Him so often, in Peter’s position I would have been no different. It points to His glory and shows me for what I am. The Jews may have put Jesus on the cross, but it was because of me that he was there. My sin held Him on the cross.

But this hymn is not to motivate us into a scene of self pity, rather to stir us up and realise the great cost Jesus paid outof his own love not because of me. It’s all of Him.

Check out the music here.

Peace Out.

About

am Jamie, and I am a Christ follower. I love Jesus but more importantly he loves me and made the ultimate sacrifice of his son so that all the things I have done, and will do, have been forgiven. And now I know God, and I pursue to know him more. Motivated and transformed by his grace I live for God, to glorify him by enjoying him.

  1. Larry says:

Judas sold you for thirty, I’d have done it for less. Ouch, but oh so true.

The album is good, and this song realllly grows on you. The Glory Of God is also a classic tune I’m liking.

    Cheers for the heads up.
