So Christmas has come and almost gone and I ask the question what was the fuss about? Well, it is the celebration of the birth of Christ. It says in Matthew 1:23, taken from Isaiah, “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel.” This means God with us. So the son of God was born, human yet still God. AMAZING! Yes. But why?
Well it’s simple, he came so that he could live the perfect life and then die. Die for our sin, for our salvation, to glorify the Father, for us to have a personal relationship with God.
This is truely good news. So why have I bothered writing on this day you may ask? Well for the very reason that you may see images such as the one above (yes that is me in an inflatable santa outfit). It is becoming a large cry from Christians and non Christians alike that Christmas has become too commercialised blah blah, but I don’t want to really go on about that. I agree its not great that’s why I have bought no gifts this year, but if I am honest that is more because I am skint. What I want to say is that we need to reflect more on the point of Christmas. If people want to buy presents for each other that’s great, my lovely mother bought me some much needed socks and I am extremely pleased about this. The food was also out of this world.
It is not wrong to enjoy Christmas. But this is after all a birthday party for Jesus, so why have we not invited him? If it was my birthday I would expect an invite at least, so why have so many of us ignored God on this fine day. Let us take time out today to reflect and meditate on God, on what he has done for us and praise him for such. Lets us make history the days of idolising all the bad things about Christmas and make Christ centre, as he is all year round. Lets go on in light of the Lord and worship him.
